Campaign group  Justice4Grenfell, will today parade three more billboards to pass through Kensington and Westminster  on the way to and from Grenfell Tower, to highlight the fact that the recommendations in the Grenfell Tower Inquiry Phase 1 report needs the political will of the government to be implemented.

Grenfell bereaved families, survivors and members of the community will meet the Billboards at Maxilla Walk under the West way between 11.30am and 12.30pm. The bill boards read,  “ Cover up 72 dead, Never again,“ “Grenfell Inquiry Report  Recommendations: Government does not have to implement …”, “How come???”

“The film that we are using again as inspiration, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, highlights the power of advertising to bring about justice. We wanted to harness this power to remind people to pay attention to the report and to highlight that the government ignored the recommendations after the fire at Lakanal House in 2009. Also there is nothing on the statute books for recommendations of any Public Inquiry to be implemented, by a government. These billboards are here because hundreds of other residential buildings in the UK are still covered in flammable cladding. Furthermore,  many people and organisations’ decisions led to the fire: the government at all levels; the council; KCTMO, the planning department; the building management company; building inspectors; the building industry as a whole, from safety experts to architects to contractors to subcontractors to manufacturers and retailers.  The report makes no recommendations on these; they are being ‘considered’ as part of Phase 2 of the Inquiry. The firefighters have been made scapegoats of Phase 1 while the ‘big’ players seem to have got off ‘scott-free’.
